Conditioning cleansers are making a huge splash in the beauty industry, but the concept isn't necessarily new. Many women have been 'conditioner washing' or co-washing for decades, but as of late this technique has picked up lots of steam and become mainstream. Almost all major haircare brands now offer a non lather option, so today I am giving you the skinny on all things conditioning cleanse.
I've posted about co-washing before, so for a starter course on the topic and the right technique to use conditioning cleansers, go back and read this. Then check out the video below.
Q- What is a conditioning Wash?
A- It's a non lathering wash that has the consistency of conditioner, designed to replace the traditional shampoo and conditioner you already have.
Q- Who should be using these types of washes?
A- They are best for women with dry, frizzy, or curly hair and those people who prefer to wash daily (versus those women who wash only a couple times per week) The ingredients in typical shampoos that cause the bubbles and lather; sulfates and detergents- are also the ingredients that can cause color fading and dryness. So in these formulas those ingredients have been removed, leaving the hair more conditioned as a result.
Q- So on the flip-side, who shouldn't be using these washes?
A- Women with oily scalps and hair, as well as those women who don't wash often- may still need a traditional lather to remove the buildup and oils from the scalp and hair after several days without washing.

What do you think of the co-washing trend? Is it a trend or will we see it stick around? And do you have any favorites that I should try? Let me know if the comments below, xo
It may be a trend for some, but wen has been around for 20+ years (about half that time it was only available in Chaz's salon). I've been using wen for 9 years & I can't imagine ever using anything else. I used to have oily hair but using the cleansing conditioner & the treatment oils have taught my scalp it doesn't need to produce all the oil it used to & everything has balanced out. I cleanse about every 3 days & I would never say my scalp or hair is oily. I also use wen styling products, which I also love because they don't weigh my hair down & they wash out easily. My favorite wen cleansing conditioners are the soy based seasonal scents (and pomegranate), rice based ones like bamboo green tea & the most treat bent based 613. The only core scent I use on a semi regular basis is tea tree because of it's amazing scalp benefits. My nieces use the wen tea tree products to keep lice at bay in the fall once school starts. Chaz's team is great with answering questions about how to use the products. You can call the number on the bottle or ask via social media (Instagram especially & he often periscopes product demos & answers questions live). When he's on QVC (the best place to buy his products) he does a great job of teaching viewers how to use his products & demos on models of every hair type. There is definitely a learning curve, but it's well worth it! My hair is so healthy & there's no such thing as a bad hair day anymore, plus my color stays vibrant & as long as I don't change shades, color never has to be run through my ends because it doesn't fade, wash out, or get brassy.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! You are right- this isn't a NEW technique, but so many of the brands are now making these products, that now the public is really catching on to it. I love WEN as well, and think they make amazing products. I've never heard about the lice treatment- that is good to know. Thanks as always for reading and I hope you are doing well! xo Megan
