Spa Week is a chance for me to share some of my favorite spa related products with you, and give a them away to a few lucky winners as well. It's going to be so much fun- and I can't wait.
The first product I want to feature for Spa Week, is the PMD, or Personal MicroDerm abrasion tool. If you've never heard of Micro Derm Abrasion, here is the run down: It's a spa service that resurfaces the skin on the face and neck using tiny little crystals and a special vacuum system. When I went to cosmetology school, this was my absolute favorite service to learn about and perform on guests of the spa.
The wand tool slides along your face and you feel a slightly abrasive scraping sensation- that's the crystals being blasted against your skin at a fast rate. Then the same tool simultaneously sucks those crystals back up into a holding chamber along with the removed skin cells, to be discarded later.
It reduces scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, acne and dullness- by turning over new skin layers and deeply exfoliating dead skin cells.
In the past, Micro Derm Abrasion was only available in spas using very expensive equipment by trained professionals... until now. Can I get an 'Amen' for that!?!

I have been using my PMD for about 5 months now- and it has played a HUGE part in the improvement I have seen in my acne. The PMD uses small round discs that look and feel like sandpaper or yes, a cat tongue. Although they are abrasive, they are gentle and uniform in their composition to avoid any tearing or possible damage to the skin. The disc sweeps along the skin with the help of a slight suction in the tool, causing the same exfoliating effect that the traditional Micro Derm provides. You replace the discs after several uses, when the abrasiveness wears away- and they make varying degrees of coarseness for the discs based on your skins' sensitivity.
If you suffer from dull skin, acne, or are starting to see fine lines appear- there is no time like the present to start a regimen that includes the PMD. I am so excited to have found it, and I can't wait to pass it along to you, after having good results with it.
To learn more about the PMD check out their site here. And be sure and enter the PMD giveaway below ($159 value) They were nice enough to provide one for my readers when I told them that I was including the PMD in my Spa Week, so thanks PMD! Stay tuned for another huge giveaway on Wednesday, and thanks again so much for reading, love to you all!

ReplyDeleteMy biggest skin issue is acne, I've been dealing with acne for over 8 years which has left behind horrible scarring. Unfortunately I have not had the chance to do any Micro Derm or spa treatment but i do hope to have the opportunity soon to get rid of imperfections. Thank you so much for this opportunity!
ReplyDeleteMy biggest skin issues has definitely been acne (and its pestering scarring/marks left after). I had pretty much the ideal skin when I was in middle and high school. It wasn't until I was around 23-ish, that I started really noticing a problem that my old products wouldn't fix! (It really IS true. ADULT acne is NOT the same as the acne we used to get when we were younger.) I've tried a ton of tools, prescription and OTC products, diets, pretty much all of it! I'm still searching for the "perfect" product for myself, but it has started to slow down! I've actually been using La Roche-Posay Effaclar line and it's been working well enough. :-)

ReplyDeleteI had a microderm tool from R&F until I called and had a question and was told it "could" have been refurbished and re-sold to me as new- ewww gross. I promptly returned it and have had the PMD on my wishlist ever since. Adult acne is the pits!

I have had a microderm treatment years ago, but it did not work well at the time because I was still dealing with breakouts. I would love to see if the PMD works, rather than going to the spa.

ReplyDeleteMy biggest skin issue is acne. From acne, I've acquired pretty much every type of scarring there is. I have hyper pigmentation, as well as ice pick scarring, and box car scarring. I've managed to get my acne under control for the most part, but the scarring is the hardest to get rid of. The PMD would help me so much!

ReplyDeleteI have this & love it! I'd love to hear your suggestions regarding microdermabrasion & other types of exfoliating... What's a good balance of physical vs chemical etc. I'm always afraid of over exfoliating. Some nights all I do is cleanse & use Josie Maran's argan milk because it's gentle & I feel like my skin needs a break.
ReplyDeleteGreat question Amy- over exfoliation is a real concern, so you are doing the right thing by giving skin a break. For me, twice a week is the most I ever do- so that includes chemical, scrub, clarisonic brush, PMD etc. Usually I do one chemical and one physical per week, and that seems to be the right balance for me. The rest of the nights its just cleanse, tone, moisture, and eye cream.
DeleteMy issue used to be acne but now that that's controlled my biggest issue is redness/dark spots. I haven't tried any micro derm treatments but I would love to!
